World: Barley trade, production forecasts down in USDA’s August report

World barley trade 2020/21 is expected to total 25.278 mln tonnes versus 26.029 mln in 2019/20 and 25.688 mln tonnes forecast for 2020/21 in USDA’s July report.

Production is forecast at 152.752 mln tonnes – sharply down from last month’s forecast of 154.693 mln tonnes (156.244 mln in marketing year 2019/20). Output projection is down for the EU (62.5 mln tonnes vs. 63.55 mln last month) and Argentina (3.5 mln tonnes vs. 3.7 mln).

Global barley consumption is seen at 152.651 mln tonnes (versus 154.062 mln tonnes in the July report and 153.288 mln tonnes in 2019/20) and ending stocks at 20.872 mln tonnes (21.455 and 20.771 mln tonnes, respectively).
